Using Your Seymour Solar Filter
Seymour Solar | Using Your Seymour Solar Filter
Thank you for choosing Seymour Solar Filters. Our Helios Solar Glass® and Helios Solar Film filters are designed for safe solar observation and photography when used correctly. Please review the following instructions carefully before use.
Before You Begin
- Verify that your filter size and cell design match your telescope, binocular, or camera lens before removing it from its sealed packaging.
- Inspect the filter for any visible defects before each use. Do not use if scratched, cracked, delaminated, or damaged in any way.
- Never observe the Sun through any optical instrument unless a proper solar filter is securely attached to the front (sky end) of the device.
Mounting Instructions
- Allow your telescope or camera and the solar filter to equalize to outdoor temperature for 10–15 minutes before use.
- Slide the filter gently onto the optical tube until snug, then tighten thumb screws evenly until secure. Do not overtighten.
- If your filter has a single thumb screw, use the included felt pad opposite the screw to ensure even pressure and centering.
- Always confirm the filter is firmly seated and cannot fall or be blown off during use.
Safe Solar Viewing
- Only use Seymour Solar filters on the front of your telescope, binoculars, or camera lens.
- Do not use any filter behind the eyepiece or within the optical path.
- Cover or remove your finder scope unless it is fitted with its own proper solar filter.
- Never leave your optical device unattended while pointed at or near the Sun.
Cleaning & Care
- Clean gently using a soft cloth or tissue with isopropyl alcohol. Avoid excessive rubbing to prevent scratching.
- Do not use abrasive materials or cleaners on glass or film surfaces.
- Store in a cool, dry place in its protective packaging when not in use.
Safety Reminder
Never look directly at the Sun without a securely attached solar filter on the front of your optical device. These filters are not intended for use as handheld or wearable solar eclipse glasses.
