Filter Safety & Standards
Solar Filter Safety
At Seymour Solar, LLC, your safety and viewing experience are our top priorities. All of our filters are manufactured and tested to meet the optical safety requirements for observing the Sun through telescopes, cameras, and other optical instruments.
ISO 12312-2:2015 Compliance
Seymour Solar glass and film filters are designed and independently tested to meet the optical safety requirements of ISO 12312-2:2015, the international standard for filters used in the direct observation of the Sun.
Because these filters are made for use with telescopes, cameras, and other optical equipment, and not as handheld or wearable eclipse glasses, they cannot be certified under ISO 12312-2. Certification applies only to finished eyewear devices such as solar viewing glasses and hand-held viewers.
Neutral Density 5 (ND5) Protection
Each Seymour Solar filter provides a Neutral Density 5 (ND5) level of protection, blocking 99.999% of sunlight and filtering harmful ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) radiation. This ensures safe, comfortable viewing and photography when the filter is properly secured to your optical instrument.
Important Safety Guidelines
- Use only filters designed for the front of optical instruments. Never place a filter behind the eyepiece.
- Do not use these filters as solar eclipse glasses or for direct eye viewing without optical equipment.
- Inspect filters before each use. Discontinue use if scratched, punctured, or damaged in any way.
- Follow all manufacturer instructions to ensure secure attachment to your telescope or camera lens.
Trusted by Professionals
Seymour Solar filters are trusted by astronomy educators, observatories, and solar photographers worldwide for their clarity, durability, and commitment to safe solar observation.
