Can this film be used for direct solar viewing?
Yes. One undamaged layer of Hyperion ND5 Solar Film may be held between your unaided eyes and the Sun so that it completely covers your view of the Sun. For greater stability and to reduce the risk of slipping, dropping, or damaging the film, we recommend installing it in a properly designed handheld viewer or holder.
When using the film with a telescope, binoculars, camera, or other optical equipment, it must be securely mounted over the front, sun-facing aperture. Inspect the film before every use and never use it if torn, punctured, deeply creased, or otherwise damaged.

Hyperion Solar Film is a thin ND5 solar-filter material designed for white-light solar viewing and photography. It is flexible and lightweight, making it suitable for custom filter cells and DIY applications. Only one layer is required. Handle the film gently and replace it if torn, punctured, or otherwise damaged.

Note on standards: ISO 12312-2:2015 applies to direct solar viewing products such as eclipse glasses and handheld solar viewers. It does not apply to optical filters used on cameras, telescopes, or binoculars. This product is ND5 solar filter film intended for DIY optical filters when mounted and used correctly.
